Happy back-to-school season, writer!
I always get the urge this time of year to visit the nearest Target-type store and stock up on notebooks, colored pencils, protractors, and Mead
folders. And a new pencil box! An eraser or two, a gluestick. I loved the autumn-coming-on prep for a new school year.
Of course, about a week into my new classes I'd be counting the days until summer.
It's not all that dissimilar from how a lot of us feel about a new writing project, innit? We're struck by an exciting idea, and for the next few days all we can think about is getting it down on paper.
About a week into the new project, all we can do is count the days until we start a new new one.
Some quick (and hugely unscientific) G-search tells me that out of any 100 writers who begin a project, only 3 of them
will finish a draft.
I can't be sure of this math, due to my lack of a brand-new Texas Instruments 30XIIS scientific calculator, but that's roughly 3%.
So... what to do about that? What can we do to recapture that back-to-school feeling and make it stick?
Here's where I take a moment to boast about how for every 100 writers who enter WriteByNight
book coaching, the percentage who finish a draft is nearer to 40%.
(Yes, as I bemoan
here often, I am not among them. Yet.)
But when writers research how much it costs to work with a book coach, the price tag is often terrifying. Some coaches not only charge upwards of $300 per hour, but they force you to sign a contract. A contract! Promising that you'll pay them for X amount of
meetings per week or month, whether or not you're even able to show up.
We don't do that. We know that writers come from all different backgrounds and dwell in all different strata. Our book coaching is fully customizable to fit not only your needs/wants, abilities, personality style,
and your most efficient methods, but your budget as well.
And discovering what we can offer is totally free. Clicking the button below will open up an email to me. Tell me a little bit about your book or other writing project; tell me what obstacles you're coming across; attach a few
sample pages, if you're comfortable with it; and let me know what you're willing or able to spend per month to get this thing done.
And I'll come back with some ideas for coaches, approach, and format.
This fall, let's get back to that magical back-to-school feeling.
