Dear WriteByNighter,
Happy Halloween! Stay spooky, stay safe, and I hope you rack
up all the candy your heart desires (and can handle).
Speaking of spooky... is there anything scarier than a book contract? For many of us writers, a publishing contract is among the most coveted documents we'll ever handle. Everything -- everything -- we've done has been in pursuit of that document.
All those long, lonely hours. The rewriting and revision. All those long, lonely hours. The rewriting and revision. All those long, lonely hours...
Here in the 2020s we've got so many publication paths available to us, including indie presses, small presses, and hybrid publishers. Even writers whose literary agents work to
secure a book deal need to be able to decode what's inside the contract they'll sign their name to.
As usual, WriteByNight's got you covered. Join our staff publishing expert, John Sibley Williams, for "Understanding Book Deals & Publishing Contracts," a two-hour crash course John will host by Zoom on Saturday, November 23, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern.
The goal of the seminar, John says, is to "demystify the process and provide you the tools you need to protect your rights and get the best deal possible."
Sounds worthwhile to us! Don't wait until you've got a contract in your hands to
understand what you should be looking for within it.
