Dear writer reader, While I continue to work my way through Anna Seghers's
The Seventh Cross (it's very good; it just takes a lot out of me), awesome new books from WBN coaches and clients continue to pour in and stack up, and I can't wait to get to them. You have a chance to beat me to the punch!
Yesterday, a paperback copy of Mark J. Wilson's time-travel mystery, Full of
Beans, hit my mailbox, and it's such a cool book. Check out the sample at the link above, or read Chapter 1 for free on Mark's website,
which is one of the most fun and unique author sites I've ever seen. (And has spawned its own spin-off sites; Mark is building a meta-world across the internet.) The story is pretty great, too: funny, exciting, with a British murder mystery at its core. (It's like a literary BritBox.)
Full of Beans is already no. 79 on Amazon in the travel adventure fiction category! Let's see if we can help kick that up a few more notches. Mark worked with WBN's Alex Myers, Tom Andes, John Sibley Williams, and Joe Marich to help bring this book to life, and we're all eager to see Phil Beans's next
adventure!
Happy happy happy pub day to Heather Gafkay, whose historical novel Generation After Generation is officially out with our friends over at Atmosphere Press! (With a free sample on Amazon.) Heather's book follows two families that, in Heather's words, "always end up bonded together" across 100+ years, including World Wars I and II. "Spanning continents ... Generation After Generation reveals how the past shapes the present—and how hope perseveres through even the darkest times." Hot off the presses, the book is already up near the top 1,500 in the literary sagas category. Let's make it climb even higher!! Heather worked with Alex Myers (pattern?) in a developmental edit, and then Brad Tyer and David Bushman teamed up on a full edit and proof. Congrats, Heather!!
Here's a reminder that WriteByNight's own Joanna Acevedo has a new story collection out, Small
Cruelties, at Flexible Press! Writer Miah Jeffra calls Joanna's book "frank, sassy, and absolutely spot-on." That's all I need to know! For a sample, take a look at "The Dark Room" over at Litro Magazine. If you need fresh eyes on a short story, Joanna's are some
of the best.
Wait There Till You Hear From Me, the new private eye novel from WriteByNight's Tom Andes (aka my personal writing coach), is available for pre-order! Keep an eye on this space for details and updates. Meanwhile, remember that query letter contest we ran a few months ago? Well, Nicole Nixon, the contest runner-up, has signed with Ritu Anand at D4EO Literary Agency! Ritu will represent Nicole and her historical novel A Woman Noble and Notorious, which follows the life of Clodia Metelli, who Cicero denounced as "a villainnes and temptress." Now that is a
character worth reading about. Congrats and good luck, Nicole! And finally, in news that warms my heart, WriteByNighter John Savage has signed with Texas Tech Press to publish Lone Star Rage: Conspiracy, Race, and Texas Politics, the result of John's decade-long journalistic deep
dive into conspiracy theories and those who foment them. We'll have much more on this book as its release draws nearer. Y'all are amazing. I love my job.
