It's mid-February ... what have you accomplished?

Published: Fri, 02/13/15

Hi there, writers,

Can you believe it's February already? I sure can't. It seems like just yesterday we clinked our glasses and ushered in the new year.

Like it or not, here we are, almost 43 days into 2015; just about 30 days since we released our survey, "The Year Ahead," in which we asked targeted questions in order to help you figure out what you want to accomplish this year and exactly how you'll go about accomplishing it.

(A great big thank you to everyone who participated! For the rest of you, there's still time to weigh in. Take the 10-question survey now)

The results were pretty darn interesting, so we thought we'd share them with you. Where do you fit in with your fellow WriteByNighters?

This data is summarized, of course, so let's recap with a bit more detail:

  • With a few exceptions, you mainly know where, when and what to write, but you don't write as much as you'd like to.

  • On the whole, you like your ideas but could use more confidence and a regular writing habit.

  • Overwhelmingly, you feel held back by not knowing how to proceed in your writing-related pursuits. You also feel you don't have enough time to write. You also feel that our services are affordable—thanks, we try!

  • Your main writing goal for 2015 is to write regularly so you can finish a piece you have in mind. Interestingly, learning to write better is a secondary goal ... gulp. We'll tackle that issue another time.

  • You plan to achieve your goals mainly through self-discipline.

So, a month and a half into 2015, where are you with your goals? Are you writing regularly? Are you working on that piece you want so badly to finish? Are you getting the advice and guidance you need?

And the biggest question of all: Are you doing what you set out to do?

If the answer is no, it's time for a new plan.

That new plan might include writing coaching or a manuscript critique or a workshop or just a conversation to help you decide what's best. You can get help from us or from someone else, but do get help. With such valuable resources at your disposal, why go it alone?

The time to develop a plan that works is now, not in three or six or eight months when even more time has slipped by you, even more pages gone unwritten.

Let's talk. We'll hatch a new plan together and, more than that, we'll make it work.

To your success this year,
Justine
