Hey writers,
Last week, we considered the concept of writing a book without really trying . . . and decided it's pure fantasy. A very attractive fantasy, but a fantasy all the same.
With an eye on reality, we asked you WriteByNighters what you do to honor yourselves and your writing practice. You had some very interesting things to say:
"Now this is potent
stuff and you nailed it; no one pulls up a chair, opens their iPad and whisks off a best seller. When Sharon Isbin enchants us with 'Asturias' on her classical guitar, she didn't decide to learn it yesterday afternoon. You don't see the endless hours she poured into buffing the tune to perfection. Same with writing. Your words and phrasing must be buffed to a high gloss of clarity. Which takes time. (This from a guy with no love of rewriting)."

"I celebrate the small insignificant improvements I make in my writing skills. I don't go out
and party or anything like that but I do something nice for myself. I do not pay much attention to what others say the writing process should be. I did that for a while and ended up not liking myself or what I was writing. I try to immerse myself in the time I spend away for writing. More often than not, getting so completely away from the craft for a short time gives me the feeling of being refreshed when I, once again, sit down in front of the keyboard."

"My
creativity is out of control. I was up for about 2 hours last night. I woke with a story idea. I'm not sure it's worth writing. But, to honor myself and my creativity, I did need to write it down, and I did."
-WriteByNighter Sid Kemp
"We have an ethic at the ranch: find good people, listen to what they say, trust them to provide a quality product, pay what they ask on time. Some crews have been working for us for over 15 years. In my experience trust, quality and service are not attributes
associated with 'low ball' bids or the people who provide them."

These WriteByNighters honor their writing with hard work, reward, inspiration, and quality services (ahem, ahem).
