Let's help each other write through the holidays.

Published: Sat, 12/17/16

Jingle bells, writers!

What a stupid salutation. I'm prone to bad writing this time of year ... if I write at all. Because, holidays. I almost always allow them to bust my momentum, and even when I do write, I shine a pretty dim light.

The holidays derail more writers than does any other time of year. I've done the research!

So is there a solution that will allow us to keep writing all through the holidays and into the new year?

I hope so. And I want us to find it together.

In today's blog post I've outlined a few simple strategies for getting work done when surrounded by family in a holiday-celebratin' house. Get up first. "Go to bed" first. Write on the train. None of them are new, but we always manage to forget them when the time comes.

This year? Don't.

"But David," you might say, "my problems over the holidays are unique to me and can't be solved with these simple strategies!"

I know! That's why, at the very end of the post, I invite you to tell us about your holiday setting and what keeps you from getting your writing done.

So if you have holiday writing roadblocks, tell us about them here, and an elf and/or a fellow WriterByNighter just might offer some advice, strategies and encouragement to help you figure out a solution.

And if you don't have holiday writing roadblocks, stop by and share your wisdom with a fellow writer.

Let's get into the giving spirit, gang. It'll be good practice.

Onward,
David

P.P.S. If you haven't yet shared the first line of your WIP, you still have time! Lots of people are subscribed to comments, so you can still find some feedback. Do it here and do it now!
