Who Wants to Write Some Micro Fiction?

Published: Sat, 04/22/17

Happy weekend, writers,

One thing I didn't do this week: write.

One thing I did do this week: comb through our website's spam folder to see if any legit blog comments slipped through the cracks.

Some of those spam comments made me giggle, and it gave me an idea for a new Micro Fiction Challenge.

See, I know others of you had trouble writing this week, too. I know because some of you told me about it. Hey, if you can't write, write to someone about how you can't write.

But sometimes all it takes to snap out of a rut is an exercise or a prompt.

So that's what we're offering in this week's blog post: a contest that forces you to write in order to participate.

I've listed five of the more amusing/interesting new sp*m comments from our site's filter. Your task is to choose one as the first line of your short story and then go from there.

Here's one example: “Athletic wind is more popularly the main cause of this backside."

Sound like fun? Make it fun for us to read and you just might win the prize, which is your choice of: a book or two from the WBN library; a $15 B&N gift card; or a lovely little writing journal.

We'll take entries all week. But don't wait too long -- writing a short story about athletic wind might be all you need to get the writing wind (ugh) back in your... in your... writing sails (ugh). (Maybe it's for the best that I don't write more often.)

Happy micro writing,
David

P.S. If you know someone who might benefit from today's message, please feel free to forward this email along. Go on, help a writer out.

P.P.S. Last week we tried to check in with you on your 2017 writing goals. Are you duckin' us?
