Greetings, writers:
There aren't many authors who can make me laugh
consistently, even with (or especially with?) books described as "hilarious."
A.M. Homes is one. Mat Johnson. Steve Almond.
It's difficult to make a reader laugh; I think it's one of the hardest things to do in writing. But every now and then, reading my own work, I'll bust out laughing. Usually at something I don't even remember having written.
Those are the rare moments where I feel like a talented writer, a far more talented one than I typically do.
We all have those moments, brought about by something we've written. It might be a passage so funny that it makes us laugh out loud. Or a passage so moving that it chokes us up; one so stirring, it gives us goosebumps.
It could be a passage so well done that it makes us say to ourselves, "I wrote that? But it's so good."
Let's spend some time this week splashing around in those moments.
For this week's blog post, "Your Favorite Passage," head on over to the comments section and type a favorite line or paragraph from your own work. One of those passages that made you realize, "Holy hell, I am an excellent writer!"
Provide some context, if you want, or just let words speak for themselves. If it's from a published work, feel free to include a link.
And while you're there, don't forget to read your fellow writers' favorite passages, and let those writers know if you dig their words.
