Hello writers and readers and gift-givers,
On a bus earlier this week I heard a young couple discussing whether they'd rather receive an item as a gift or a gift card so they could choose their own items.
Unanimously, two-to-zero,
they chose the gift card.
Naturally I started thinking about this question as it relates to books: Would I rather receive a book as a gift, or a gift card to select my own
books?
I guess it depends on the gifter. There are few people I'd trust to buy me a book I'd enjoy.
But still, isn't it a more pleasant experience to receive something personal but perhaps not entirely up your alley than to receive something totally impersonal that takes little work or thought?
Well, isn't it?
Would you rather have someone give you a book, or a gift card to a bookstore? Would you rather give someone a book, or a gift card to a bookstore?
I want to hear your thoughts and opinions and anecdotes and supporting research and evidence!
