Hi WriteByNighters,
Losing work due to technology can be a frustrating experience for anyone, but for a writer, it can be downright harrowing.
There's a hell of a difference between recreating a spreadsheet
and recreating, say, a chapter of a book.
A couple of weeks ago, my computer reset itself to factory settings without warning. I had spent all week sweating over a chapter of my book, and all I'd done when I finally finished was click save.
No flash
drive, no email to self. Just bye-bye.
This story has a happy ending: After I stopped weeping, I restarted the computer again and everything came back.
I got lucky this time. Other times, I've not gotten so
lucky.
And I know all of you have stories where you've not gotten so lucky either.
Share with us your worst horror stories, whether you've lost words due to technology errors or to Hadley Richardson-style
misplacement. Or worse!
How has that incident changed your approach when it comes to securing your writing?
And most importantly, how do you recreate your creative writing after you lose it? Let us know in the comments.
