Happy weekend, WriteByNighters,
Recently I watched an episode of The Office where the Dunder Mifflin gang plays a round of Desert Island with movies and books. Naturally, I wondered what book I'd answer with.
My first and obvious choice was Johnny Tremain. I've written so many times about what that book means to me, I'm not going to bother you all with it again.
But then I pumped the brakes after Jim says something to the effect of, "Remember, this is the one book you'll have to read over and over again for the rest of your life."
And suddenly, my favorite book no longer seemed like the best choice. I can almost recite Johnny Tremain. I can envision the entire narrative, scene by scene.
Stuck on a desert island with little else to do, do I really want to be stuck with the one book I know better than any other?
After scanning our bookshelves, I eventually stumbled across my answer, one that I chose because it delivers variety, length, and a portion of the unknown.
In the comments, tell us what your book is, but most importantly, tell us why you picked it!
And then tell us under what circumstance you'd be stuck on a desert island and somehow manage to be carrying with you the one book you'd want to have while on it. Weird game.
