Hi writers,
And a
happy weekend to you all. I hope you have some writing time set aside, because we've got homework for you!
OK, so it's not homework: It's just a new Micro Fiction Contest. And it's voluntary. But all the cool kids are planning to enter, and don't you want to be one of the cool kids?
Lately we've been spending time thinking and talking about music and literature, including our discussion about whether we listen to music while we read or write
and the recent Yak Babies conversation about writers who use song lyrics in their fiction.
After that Yak Babies episode I sat myself down and wrote a short story in which a particular song
features prominently, just to see if I could do it.
The jury's out on that one, but while they deliberate, I thought we might have some fun by turning this whole thing into a
contest.
So, here's your task:
Write a short story in fifty words or fewer that includes a reference to a specific song, songwriter, or performer, and/or includes lyrics from a song or songs.
You may enter as many stories as you wish. The prize will involve books, of course. The contest closes next Saturday at noon Eastern. Visit the post for further rules and procedures and specifics.
And pssst, here's a secret: The winning story is usually (not always) the story that makes us laugh the hardest.
Good luck, and have fun!
