Hi writers,
With autumn in sight and three-fourths of the year gone, I want to take this opportunity to revisit the literary goals you shared with us in January, either in the comments of "In 2018, You Will!" or in private because you're shy.
So... how's it going?
Your goals ran the gamut:
Some of you vowed to publish a book this year; others wanted to finish a book, or start one. Or finally write that short story or that essay or that poem that's been on your mind for so long. Some of you wanted to focus on improving your craft.
One of you wrote, "I will get the courage to start writing within this month." Another of you wanted to read, on average, one book per week.
Some of you wrote entire lists of things to accomplish, lists that included "Seed my brain with new knowledge and experiences," and "Read aloud
from my work in front of an audience, even if it's just friends/family."
Share your progress in the comments, or reply to this message instead if you want to chat one-on-one.
And cheer each other on! A little encouragement from a fellow writer can
go a long way.
As for me, I wrote that in 2018 I'd finish the memoir I began in 2017. It ain't happening, long story short.
Which is an appropriate phrase, because I've gone from writing that long story, the memoir, to writing short stories instead. And I
consider that a success.
Because regardless of what goals I entered the year with, I'm continuing my pursuit of literary fulfillment and greatness. And in the end, that's what matters the most.
So if your 2018 literary goal has gone off
the rails, hell, make a new one.
