Hi WriteByNighters!
A new year is exactly one month ahead of us. Do you have any 2019 writing goals in mind yet? If not, now's a great time to start thinking about it.
Unless you're someone who doesn't make resolutions! Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I did make one for 2018: Finish the book I was working on.
Not only did I not finish that book, I stopped working on it altogether. Not forever, but just for now. (Any Uncle Tupelo fans in the house?)
That doesn't mean I consider 2018 a failure. I wrote a lot, I learned a lot about writing and about myself as a writer, and even though I pumped the brakes on my nonfiction book, I wrote about 50,000 words of fiction.
The thing about goals is, we can always change them.
The "Why Do You Write" part is a little year-end writing prompt meant to deliver some inspiration, whether you're desperately working to hit your 2018 goal (which maybe you shared with us in January?) or whether you're looking ahead to next
year.
It's a simple complete-the-sentence exercise. We'd love to see your results in the comments. Or you can email them to me if you want to stay off the public record.
The sentence begins, "I write because..." How the sentence ends is up to you.
We'll hatch a plan together for accomplishing your 2019 writing goals and more. The new year is only thirty short days away!
