Top o' the mornin', WriteByNighters!
The WBN brain trust spent a week in Ireland in mid-October. It was a wonderful break: the weather was pleasant, we got to spend time with friends, and neither of us got a cold.
We also visited
lots of bookstores and saw some cool literary sights. The Long Room at Trinity College in Dublin? Is where I want to die and be buried.
In this week's post we share a few (hopefully not lame) observations on books and reading in Ireland, at least in Sligo and Dublin, and on the train in between.
For example, did you know that some bookstores in Ireland mark their books up from the cover price? I've never seen that here in the U.S. Have you?
Also, few of their new releases seem to come in hardcover. I like this. I've never been much of a fan of hardcover books.
Neither was Oscar Wilde. Maybe. How the hell would I know? What I do know is, the Oscar Wilde house in Dublin is not available for a tour unless you put together another twenty-four or more people.
But
at least we got to look at the outside of it! Which is presently covered in scaffolding and tarps.
And make sure to share with us your thoughts on the discussion questions we sprinkle in like a cool Irish mist.
