Hello, WriteByNighters,
It's November, once again. (It's as if it happens every year.) Which, for many of you, means a month-long deep dive into book-length fiction.
For those of you not in the know,
NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month, and NaNoReMo replaces "writing" with "reading."
The goal in the former is to write fiction every day this month and ideally have a
finished first draft of a novel by November 30. The goal with the latter is to spend the month reading novels.
Are you participating in either? We want to hear about your goals and your approaches in the comments of this
week's post, "NaNoWriMo, NaNoReMo, and Mo'."
I'm also curious to know your take on one other thing:
Some writers intentionally avoid reading the kinds of work they're currently writing. For
example, if they're writing fiction they'll read only nonfiction, and vice versa.
The purpose is, I believe, to not allow what you're reading to affect your own WIP.
Do you do this? If so, does it help? And if not, do you ever feel like whatever you're reading seeps into whatever you're writing?
We want to hear your take on all of this and more.
And if you're WriMoing or ReMoing or both, good luck! Stay strong, stay focused, and let us know how it goes.
