Happy weekend, writers!
Lately I've been wondering if I'm missing out because I don't have any rituals involving my writing. I don't have a specific writing space, and I don't have a specific writing time: I write whenever it strikes me, wherever I happen to be.
I don't meditate before I write, or take a walk around the block. I don't drink a certain beverage or perform any specific tasks.
I know one novelist who will write only if he's wearing his favorite maroon hoodie.
I know another who writes only after she does thirty minutes of cardio to clear and calm her mind.
Some writers will clear their email inboxes before they write, or read from a certain book, or... and this one's weird... hang upside-down for ten minutes.
Do you have any pre-writing rituals that help put you in that creative headspace? Or anything you do while you write to keep yourself in that zone?
What are your rituals and how do they help? Have you tried any that haven't worked? What's the strangest pre-writing ritual you've ever heard of?
