Happy weekend, writers!
Normally a sunny mid-July Saturday is cause for celebration, a great excuse to get to the beach, go on a picnic, take in a ballgame.
But if you're one of the many millions of people caught up in this insufferable heatwave, being outside is the last thing you want today.
What a great day to plop yourself down next to a whirring fan and do something literary!
What will you read and/or write today while hiding from the oppressive heat? Reply to this email to let me know.
And I'll respond... if I manage to survive the six-hour baseball doubleheader I have to play today, with Game 1 starting just about the time the heat index is expected to reach 107 here in NYC.
There's no post this week on the WBN blog, but what a great time to catch up on old posts you may have missed, including our discussions about handling harsh criticism, our writing fears, libraries, and, of course, death.
To those of you who expressed interest in an online writers group: in the next few days, I'll be sending out a quick survey that will help me organize this thing. Or these things! We may split into several groups.
If you're interested in joining but haven't yet let me know, reply to this email so I can get you on board.
Since I'm not doing a post this week, here are a few random things to read, listen to, or watch:
Next week I plan on seeing The Pieces I Am, the new documentary about Toni Morrison. If it's playing in your area, and sounds up your alley, go see it, and then let's chat about it. An air-conditioned movie theater is always a great escape from the heat.
Stay cool, writers! And I mean that in every way.
