Hey there, WriteByNighters,
In mid-June we were on a beach on the southern coast of Portugal. The weather was perfect, and the water was... well, it was life-suckingly freezing, but offered a beautiful view and soothing background noise.
Justine occupied herself by staring vigilantly into the water, on the lookout for the shark fin that would validate her refusal to swim.
I, meanwhile, occupied myself by writing in a little blue notebook. Against the background of such a beautiful setting, I somehow managed to work on a scene set in a dark and dirty bowling alley in a small Wisconsin town.
I didn't write very much that day, and what I did write was nothing special, but still, it was one of my favorite writing moments of 2019.
Did you have any particularly memorable writing sessions this year?
How about a breakthrough moment where, after many false starts and lots of wandering, your story finally came together?
Or a time when you sat back and realized that what just came out of you was especially artful, maybe even some of the best writing you're capable of?
We don't celebrate such moments enough. Let's change that.
