Hi writers & readers,
While we launch firmly into a new year, we wanted to give you a quick look at some WriteByNighters who found success with their projects toward the end of the previous year.
Our partnership with Atmosphere Press, a hybrid publisher run by WBN coach and consultant Nick Courtright, has led many WBN clients to realize their goal -- some for the very first time! -- of getting a book published.
Longtime WriteByNighter -- in fact, WriteByNight's very first client ever! -- Marcia Drut-Davis has released her followup to her debut, Confessions of a Childfree Woman. In What?! You Don't Want Children? Marcia offers a guide for how to handle rejection from family, friends, and society as a whole when choosing a child-free lifestyle.
Marcia has worked with many WBN staff members along the way, predominantly Justine in coaching, as well as me, Brad Tyer, and Bridget Apfeld.
Kyle McCurry's new fantasy novel, The Fleeing Company, details the adventures of Adroegen, a drifter on the run from the goblin chief and
other "foul creatures of the night." About the book, Kyle says, "I try to capture what I think is the heart and spirit of storytelling, which I have found is summed up with one word: escapism." Sounds like a good winter read to me!
Kyle has worked closely with WBN coach/consultant Tom Andes, along with Brad Tyer and Adriana Cloud.
Heat in the Vegas Night is Jerry Reedy's new memoir about being a member of a card-cheating ring operating in Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, and elsewhere
in the late seventies and into the eighties. Follow Jerry's thrilling adventures as he's chased through the casinos and the streets -- and sometimes caught -- by cops and security guards hell-bent on busting up this gang of blackjack wizards. And I know all about how riveting this book is; I proofed it!
Sandra Fox Murphy had a busy 2019, to say the least. The first two novels in her Fidelia McCord series, Let the Little Birds
Sing and On a Lark, set in mid-nineteenth century Texas, are now available, as is her post-Civil War novel, That Beautiful Season. And if poetry is more your style, check out Sandra's new
collection, Aging Without Grace, which details "the journey along the course of aging."
Sandra has worked with Nick Courtright in book coaching and had some consultation help from me.
Some upcoming Atmosphere titles to keep an eye out for -- and we'll remind you, don't worry! -- are Steve's Glick's The Testament, Sylvia DeSantis's Katastrophe: The Dramatic Actions of Kat Morgan, and Chris McGee's SEED.
Congrats, WriteByNighters! Keep up the inspiring work.
And one last piece of exciting news: Former WBN coach/consultant Jessamine Chan will publish her debut novel, The School for Good Mothers, with Ink 37 in the summer of 2021. Congrats,
Jessamine!

P.P.S. Over on the blog we recently welcomed new WBN coach and consultant Erin Bertram and discussed the books that, in Orwell's eloquent words, "become part of the furniture of one's mind."
