Hello, WriteByNighters,
If you're a regular visitor to our staff page, you'll have noticed that we recently took on a new writing coach and consultant, Erin Bertram, an accomplished teacher, coach, and writer.
Erin's Q&A, eloquent and insightful, is well worth your time. If after (or hell, before; like, right now) reading it you're interested in working with Erin, let us know by signing up for your free writing consultation.
In response to our question about major influences, Erin lists a few of the writers "who've shaped, and continue to shape, my life, how I move through the world, the particular angles of my seeing."
Lovely, isn't it? It reminded me of a passage from George Orwell's essay "Books vs. Cigarettes": "There are books that one reads over and over again, books that become part of the furniture of one's mind and alter one's whole attitude to life."
I wish I'd written that.
In the post, I want us to discuss the books and writers that have influenced you the most, both as a writer and as a reader/person.
What writers have "shaped your life?" What books have "become the furniture" of your mind?
How have these books and writers affected "the particular angles of your seeing"?
And in what ways do you, as a writer, want to shape the lives of your readers?
And welcome aboard, Erin!
