Dear writers,
It's our great pleasure (especially in these trying times) to introduce you to our newest writing coach and consultant, Stephanie True Peters.
In this week's blog post, "Can Creativity Be Forced?" let's discuss a couple of responses Stephanie provided in a recent Q&A, because although she wrote them before we all went on lockdown, they have a lot to say about our current situation.
"Creativity can't be forced," Stephanie told us. "If you're staring in frustration at the blank page or screen, take a break from writing and do something completely different."
In last week's post about creativity during COVID-19, a few of you expressed frustration about being unable to get any inspiration flowing while cooped up at home. Stephanie offers a few tactics:
"Movement helps jump-start my brainwaves," she says, "so I'll take a walk or clean a room or hit the gym."
What tactics do you have for finding a back door to creativity? Or do you try to force your way through the front?
Stephanie goes on to suggest a "brain dump" if you still can't get going:
"Write down everything that's on your mind -- your grocery list, a joke, a conversation you overheard ... cleaning out the clutter can make room for new ideas to grow. And who knows, you might even find inspiration somewhere in the clutter!"
How do you clear out the mental clutter? Are you finding it more difficult to do so these days?
