Hi WriteByNighters,
Can you guess from the title the three pieces of info I want from you?
A few years ago we had a surprisingly fun deathbed discussion: What book would you choose for your final reading experience, and why? But my answer has changed, and I'm wondering if yours has, too.
And so while we're on the subject: Assume for now that you'll have a headstone, and that you'll have a say in what's inscribed on it.
What words from literature -- a poem, a passage from a novel or story, anything you've read or written -- would you choose, and why?
Or maybe you'd prefer to think about your own funeral service rather than what your grave will look like. What would you want to be read aloud at your service, and why?
Thinking about and talking/writing about death isn't really my thing, and maybe it's not your thing, either.
But it's been a heavier presence lately for many of us, so I figured I'd offer a chance to turn into it. If you don't want to take it, no hard feelings. I'll see you again next week with something sunnier!
If you do want to participate, approach it however you'd like. Take it seriously if you wish, make it light and playful, or find some middle space.
