Hi WriteByNighters,
Have I hooked you yet?
Probably not, because that's a dull opening line. An opening line has one purpose: To make the reader move to the second line. The second has one purpose: To make the reader move to the third. And so on, until hooked.
Your opening is your only chance to make a good first impression!
I want us to talk about openings -- and share our favorite examples from our own writing! -- in this week's post, "How Do You Hook A Reader?"
Do you have an opening line or paragraph you're particularly proud of? Or an opening you're currently struggling with and want some feedback on? Leave 'em in the comments, along with some context.
And let us know what you look for in a book's opening as a reader. Share a favorite example or two from literature and tell us why you love it.
