& writers Hi readers!
OK, I think that's already more than enough dumb jokes about writing out of sequence. But it's my new thing. Writing out of sequence has saved my novel from the debris pile.
In my previous thirty-seven attempts to write this book, I've always stalled out in Chapter 3, sometimes sooner.
All because I'm allowing myself to freely bounce around and follow my nose, rather than forcing myself to write linearly.
If I start a writing session in Chapter 3 but can't get into it, I'll jump ahead to a scene in Chapter 6, or back to a scene in chapters 1 or 2. It's really that simple.
But that simple approach has allowed me to maintain momentum and excitement, to the point where I'm much farther into this book than I've ever been before.
Every day I make forward progress, even if I move backwards.
Have you ever written a book out of sequence? Why does this approach work for you? How do you maintain story/character consistency?
