It's National Short Story Month! Let's write some fiction.

Published: Thu, 05/08/14

Hey all,

As you may or may not know, May is National Short Story Month. To celebrate, Alabama-based literary journal NANO Fiction is doing something that we think is totally cool.

Every day this month, NANO Fiction will post a writing prompt inspired by a piece of fiction that the journal has published. At the end of the month, they'll release an anthology of the prompts and their linked stories.

Yesterday, for example, we were asked to write like Kendra Grant Malone, author of "45 Walker Street," by choosing an everyday situation and adding a few choice details that make it strange.

Pretty cool, right? It's also an awesome way to flex your writing muscles for the next 20+ days. Who knows? Maybe you'll like it so much, you'll keep up the habit of seeking out a daily writing prompt beyond the month of May. And that would be super.

Well, that about sums it up but if you'd like to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, you may do so here.

If you're ready to dive on in, you may view the writing prompts thus far here . . . and start writing!

Happy National Short Story Month,

Justine
