Why are you keeping me from writing?

In a recent episode of BoJack Horseman, Netflix's animated series about a washed-up actor eager for a comeback, BoJack decides to write his memoirs. His writing day goes like this (click the image to watch the clip): Spoiler alert: BoJack and Heather let life's multitude of distractions get the better of them and fall victim to some serious procrastination. They will do anything not to write. I'm no stranger to this experience. My apartment is never as spick-and-span as it is when I'm writing . . . er, supposed to be writing. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that you've been through the same. There's a reason for that. Resistance to writing is a natural part of the writing process. If we never resist, we can never accept. So what if we embrace the resistance rather than reject it? What if, rather than beating ourselves up for all the writing we're not doing, we take a step back, breathe, and look ahead to all the writing we will do? And we will.
